NHL trade deadline blockbusters, Dallas acquire Rantanen in mega deal

It’s the time of year where NHL teams attempt to reshape their rosters in order to make a push for the cup, or pull back and re-tool for the future.

The NHL’s trade deadline passed at 3 o’clock Friday, and there was plenty of movement from some of the best clubs in the league.

The Dallas Stars dominated the headlines, after acquiring forward Mikko Rantanen from the Carolina Hurricanes, and then signed him to a mega, 8-year, $96 million dollar deal.

Optimism may be brewing among Leafs nation, after picking up solid pieces at centre and defense.

However, those feelings may be spoiled after Toronto arch-nemesis, Brad Marchand is set to be shipped out of Boston, heading to the defending stanley cup champions.
