Canada’s premiers are backing urgent, intense, and fair trade talks between Ottawa and Washington in the wake of a new tariff threat. President Donald Trump’s decision to use a Depression-era legal tool to impose a 50 per cent tariff on Canadian goods has cast a shadow over this week’s annual premiers’ meeting.

Meanwhile, Trump’s top trade representative, Jamieson Greer, told a Senate hearing today that the tariffs aren’t going anywhere.
