Thousands of Sunwing passengers still stranded abroad following technical issue

First Published:

Thousands of Sunwing passengers remain stranded abroad as the Toronto-based airline struggles to resolve a technical glitch. The glitch has resulted in major flight delays.

Sunwing says only fifteen of more than forty impacted flights have departed worldwide, with more expected to depart today.

Sunwing says the glitch has forced it to check passengers in manually, a process that takes a lot longer.

The result is long lines of frustrated passengers at Canadian airports showing up for their vacation, but unsure when their flight will leave.

Thousands remain in vacation destinations waiting to come home to Canada, also unsure when they will get home.

Sunwing says its employees are working around the clock to solve the problem, and are reminding passengers that anyone whose flight is delayed more than three hours will be compensated.

It is unclear how much longer this glitch will continue to impact operations.
