Students in Quebec’s French-language schools return to class

First Published:

All eyes will be on French language schools in Quebec as thousands of schoolchildren head back to class Thursday.

Premier Francois Legault has said the plan was developed with health and education experts, who say that attending school is the best thing for children’s well-being.

Kids can expect lots of hand-washing and each roomful of kids will be kept in a separate bubble.

Masks will be required in hallways and in common areas for children in Grade 5 and up, while schoolyards will be sectioned off with tape to prevent extra mingling.

The government has faced push back over its back-to-school plan.

Critics say it doesn’t go far enough, noting it doesn’t require social distancing within classrooms, mask-wearing for all students, or screening children for symptoms of COVID-19.

It also doesn’t include a distance-learning option for parents.
