Hamilton under special air quality statement due to wildfire smoke

A special air quality statement is in effect for the City of Hamilton as smoke from nearby wildfires increases air pollution.

Environment Canada says wildfires in Quebec and Northeastern Ontario are leading to decreased air quality in Hamilton as well as the north part of Toronto and London, Ont.

Poor air quality is expected to continue through Monday into Tuesday along with an Air Quality Health Index reaching moderate to high risk.

Wildfire smoke can cause air quality and visibility to fluctuate greatly from hour to hour.

Those who are sensitive to poor air quality should consider reducing time spent outdoors.

Environment Canada says drinking lots of water can help your body cope with the smoke.
