Shelter-in-place lifted after threat toward Garrison Road Public School

First Published:

Police say a shelter-in-place has been lifted following a phone threat toward a Fort Erie elementary school Tuesday afternoon.

Officers say a Garrison Road Public School staff member contacted police after receiving the threat of gun violence shortly before 3 p.m.

“The school implemented a shelter-in-place safety procedure out of an abundance of caution,” the force said in a news release.

It says nearby Stevensville Public School and Peace Bridge Public School also followed safety procedures, but were lifted soon after.

Police say there have been no arrests and the identity of the suspect remains unknown.

Parents were initially asked to wait at the Canadian Sportsman’s Club as police investigated.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m., children were released from the school to their parents, guardians and school busses.

Garrison Rd. was closed between Benner Ave. and Spears Rd., but it has since reopened.

The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information about this threat is asked to call police at 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1022300.
