Toronto police have released surveillance video of the brazen shooting of a Hamilton man last month.

Leonard Pinnock, 33, was shot multiple times as he sat in a parked car outside a Toronto plaza on April 21.

During a press conference at Toronto Police Headquarters Thursday, investigators said Pinnock was in the city for a legitimate purpose. “He was simply giving a friend a ride to the area as a favour,” said Detective Sgt. Joyce Schertzer.

In the 17-second video released by police, two men can be seen walking through the parking lot in the direction of Pinnock’s car. The suspects then run towards the vehicle and fire multiple shots into the driver’s side window.

Schertzer said there is nothing in Pinnock’s background that has led them to believe he would be targeted. She called the attack “seemingly unprovoked”, adding there was no exchange or contact between Pinnock and the suspects before the shooting.

Police said Pinnock was dressed all in red the night of his murder and when asked if the colour may have triggered the shooting, Schertzer said police were “not opposed to looking at possibilities.” She added the colour made Pinnock very visible as his sat in his car.

Detectives are hoping someone may recognize the suspects in the video. Police warn they are considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
