Photos captured at the scene show a dark coloured GMC pickup truck with significant damage to the front end sitting on the front lawn of a nearby home.
A white Hyundai sedan can be seen in the middle of the roadway with a broken windshield, and extensive damage to the front bumper.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) arrived on scene around 12 p.m. to investigate the Hamilton Police Service’s involvement in relation to the fatal collision.
In a news release the SIU say the male driver of one of the vehicle’s involved in the collision fled. Officers located the vehicle and the driver fled. A short time later, the same driver was involved in a collision with another vehicle at Balsam Avenue and Maplewood Avenue. The driver fled on foot. A woman in the other vehicle was taken to hospital where she died.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officers that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and the discharge of a firearm at a person.
