OPP scaling back search for boy swept into Lake Erie

First Published:

Haldimand OPP are scaling back their search for the body of nine year old Alex Ottley who was swept into Lake Erie a week and a half ago.

Alex Ottley went missing in Lake Erie near Nanticoke trying to save a friend on February 15th. Both boys and Alex’s sister had been on an ice shelf that formed at Peacock Point.

Efforts to find Alex’s body have been hampered by poor weather and ice buildup. OPP say scaling back their underwater search is an extremely difficult decision and will continue with periodic aerial and shoreline searches.
