Ontario reports 2,336 cases of COVID-19, 14 deaths

Ontario reported 2,336 cases of COVID-19 and 14 deaths on Tuesday, as the president of the Ontario Hospital Association says increasing hospitalizations are straining capacity.

Anthony Dale says intensive care units across Ontario are seeing younger patients, with more severe cases of COVID-19, which is straining the system.

There are 1,090 patients in hospital across the province. There are 387 people in intensive care with 249 of them on ventilators.

The daily case count comes as the province completed 36,071 tests. The reported positivity rate, which takes into account the date tests were done, is 6.2 per cent.

Another 1,477 cases have been marked as resolved.

Ontario is reporting 2,336 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 36,100 tests completed. Locally, there are 727 new cases in Toronto, 434 in Peel, 229 in York Region, 194 in Durham, 144 in Ottawa and 123 in Hamilton.

• 84 active cases
• 13 deaths

• 25,113 vaccine doses given; 2,570 people fully vaccinated

Haldimand-Norfolk

• 1,629 total cases — up four from Monday
• 1,507 resolved cases
• 78 active cases
• 39 deaths
• 18,896 vaccine doses given; 1,622 people fully vaccinated

Another 70,645 vaccine doses were administered since Monday’s report for a total of 2,102,380 doses.

There are 313,889 residents who are fully vaccinated.

There are now 1,800 confirmed cases of the B.1.1.7 lineage of the virus, which was first reported in the U.K., up from the 1,749 reported on Monday.

There are another six confirmed cases of the B.1.351 strain, first reported in South Africa, for 69 cases.

There are 90 confirmed cases of the P.1 strain first reported in Brazil – eight more than on Monday.
