Tenants at 1083 Main Street East are still without water after the pipes froze from a winter storm and the landlord shut off the supply. According to one of the tenants, when the problem began back on December 28th, 9 people lived in the building, but only 7 remain.

Earlier this month, the city ordered the owners to fix the pipes within 19 days, but the property owners appealed it. The city says it’s willing to do the repairs, but Ward 3 City Councillor Nrinder Nann says the city is legally required to wait for the appeal process to be completed.

In the meantime, the city has been supplying water to the tenants. In a statement, an attorney representing the building owner and property manager mentioned that 1083 Main Street incorporated and Grow Property Management offered alternative accommodations to all the tenants but went on to say many of them refused to leave their units.

The attorney for the property manager says renovation notices were given to the tenants last year, and a hearing is coming up this March at the landlord and tenant board.
