Niagara police have made an arrest in connection with a gas station robbery in St. Catharines.
On Oct. 7 at around 9:20 p.m., police responded to a report of a robbery and attended a gas station on Queenston Street near Page Street. The initial investigation determined that a man had entered the store and selected $47 worth of merchandise. The man then threatened the clerk that he had a weapon.
The clerk fled the store and locked the man inside the gas station. In an attempt to escape, he began trashing the store. He was eventually set free and ran from the area.
The NRPS Real Time Operations Centre was able to track the movements of the suspect through a network of CCTV cameras in the area. Police were then directed to the suspects location in the area of Geneva Street and Church Street. At 9:35 p.m., the suspect was located and arrested and merchandise from the robbery was recovered at the time.
Kidus Dawit, 34, of St. Catharines has been charged with robbery.
