Niagara Health removes Dr. Tom Stewart as CEO following Caribbean vacation

First Published:

Niagara Health’s board of directors have removed Dr. Tom Stewart as CEO.

In a news release issued Wednesday evening, Niagara Health says its board of directors have decided to end the purchase of CEO services within its contractual agreement with St. Joseph’s Health System.

The move is effective immediately and comes as Stewart was found to be vacationing in the Dominican Republic over the holiday.

He apologized and resigned from the province’s COVID-19 advisory table as word of his vacation became public.

Stewart was on approved vacation from Dec. 18 to Jan. 5, according to St. Joseph’s Health System. He is now in quarantine.

STewart remains CEO of St. Joseph’s Health System but that board says it’s meeting Thursday.

“The Board of Directors of Niagara Health would like to thank Dr. Tom Stewart for his valuable service to our system and the people of Niagara,”said the statement from Niagara Health.

Lynn Guerriero, current President of Niagara Health, will become president and interim CEO of Niagara Health.
