YMCA offers health and wellness programs to people of all ages and abilities

A new year brings a fresh start for many people and many New Year’s resolutions involve working out.
Emily Vukovic visited the YMCA which is more than just a fitness centre. They are a charity that provides programs for all ages and all stages- from youth to seniors, childcare to men’s residence, day camps and employment services and immigration settlement services, no one is turned away.
The YMCA is really family oriented where there is something for everyone to do there.
One of the programs they offer is a hydrotherapy class, where members can get in the pool and exercise while not putting a lot of pressure on their joints. There are plenty of aqua programs offered at all their branches, which are getting back to pre-pandemic level classes.
Another great program that helps people work on their fitness goals is the Y Thrive program. The program has various streams depending on people’s fitness levels that gives people a custom made program with a coach, and after 90 days you get a brand new program so you don’t get bored with your workouts and will continue it. The Y Thrive program focuses on exercise, nutrition and proper sleep to give you a well rounded program.
The YMCA has also been in partnership with Hamilton Health Sciences for about 15 years doing award winning community health programs and have been able to provide some of the best health care services to seniors. The Y has plenty of programs for seniors so if people have certain health problems, there is something there that is safe for them.
So if health and fitness is one of your goals for 2023, the YMCA is a great place to get started.
