Women and boys and HPV
Women infected with cancer-causing strains of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine may have an increased risk for heart problems.
Researchers found women with the cancer-causing strains of HPV, about 20% of all study participants, had a significantly increased risk for cardiovascular disease.
Researchers say some of the genes affected by HPV play a role in the health of arteries, which could increase the risk for heart problems.
But they add more studies are needed.
Also, a U.S. government panel voted Tuesday to recommend that boys get the controversial HPV vaccine also.
Doctors argue that the vaccine could protect boys from the virus and help stop them from spreading the sexually transmitted virus to girls.
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which advises the Centre of Disease Control, voted unanimously to recommend routine use of Gardasil in 11 and 12 year old boys.
