‘We are going to make history together that day’: Mayor Diodati on the solar eclipse Day in Niagara Falls

We are less than a week away from the solar eclipse and Niagara Falls is preparing for their biggest crowd yet, which means a lot of people are booking hotel rooms. There have been rumours that asylum seekers are being kicked out of their hotel rooms for this event, but mayor Jim Diodati says that is not the case.
“As far as I understand none of that has happened. The federal government has an arrangement directly with the number of hotels, so those people, a number of them, they do three month contracts, they’ve been renewed for another three month contract. When that happens any bookings that maybe the hotel had aren’t going to happen, they just continue to roll over and renew.”
If you are travelling to Niagara Falls for April 8th there are still hotel rooms available with good rates for the Friday-Sunday if you plan on going to the Falls earlier.
All hands are on deck to ensure everyone’s safety, but Mayor Diodati wants everyone to come prepared, by making sure you have your solar eclipse glasses, gas in your car and comfortable shoes. Niagara Falls is also getting extra cell towers, called cows, to help with cell signal since they are expecting a million or so people to be on their phones at the same time.
Although this is going to be Niagara Falls’ biggest event by far, a few weeks ago Jerry Seinfeld did a comedy show at the OLG Stage which brought people out to the tourist city. The OLG Stage are now doing 120-130 shows on the major stage and 200 shows at the Avalon Theatre.
And today, the Stamford Branch Library reopens after four years on renovations. It is now accessible and brought into the modern century, so check it out when you can.
