Taking the drug “Champix” to help quit smoking may lead to a higher risk of heart attack or stroke.

That’s according to a new study in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.

The drug has already been flagged by regulators around the world for its psychiatric side effects, including suicidal thoughts and behaviour.

The study’s lead author says there are cheaper and safer ways to quit smoking.
