University costs rising

Canadian university students hoping for financial relief might not find it in the next few years.

A report from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives forecasts the inflation-adjusted cost of an undergraduate university degree is expected to climb an average of 8.6% over the next four years.

The adjusted average cost of university tuition in Canada was about $2200 a year in 1990. That figure climbed to over $6200 for the last academic year, and it’s projected to keep rising.

The centre forecasts the basic cost of an undergraduate degree in 2016 to be over $6800.
