Tooth Fairy becoming more generous

The Tooth Fairy is lighting up social media this morning, after a new survey looked at how much baby teeth are worth across the country.

The Tooth Fairy is paying on average $3.46 per tooth out east! 35 per cent of respondents in Atlantic Canada said their children found $5 or more per tooth under their pillows in 2014.

The national average is $2.80, but Ontario kids get more than that. Here we have the second highest rate in the country with baby teeth going for $3.21 a piece.

However, kids in Quebec were the least likely to get a visit from the tooth fairy. 13 per cent received no money for lost teeth, and those who did got an average of $2.06.

All of these findings came from a telephone survey created by GFK Group for VISA Canada. They surveyed a thousand homes with children under the age of 13. VISA Canada recently launched an online financial calculator that allows children and parents to compare their earnings with other children from similar households in Canada.

If kids in Atlantic Canada and Ontario save their tooth fairy funds, by the time they lose all 20 baby teeth they will have stashed away $69.64.
