Millions of Canadians from coast to coast have been without reliable phone and internet connections Wednesday night. Rogers Communications has been hit by a service outage that the company has yet to explain.
Scot Urquhart has the latest information on the outage.
The outage began around 7:30 Wednesday evening, and as of 11pm, Rogers had offered no explanation for the situation.
We do know that the outage stretches from coast to coast nationally, and affects some voice, messaging, and data services. Rogers has more than 10-million wireless customers nationally and the company quickly posted an apology on both Facebook, and Twitter, informing customers that the company was working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. But even Rogers own website was down for an extended period, and unavailable to customers. Comments concerning the outage on social media quickly turned from surprise to anger, with many customers saying they pay too much for their services, and expect Rogers to offer some sort of compensation for the disruption. Businesses too were severely affected.
I’ve been attempting to contact Rogers to try to get some details on what exactly the problem is and a guess as to how long it may last. There are however, scattered reports of service being slowly restored in some areas.
We have also received reports of similar problems with ‘Fido’, the cut rate Rogers network. Ironically, even Rogers workers couldn’t get any information on the situation at the moment as their connection to the service network was also down and they say the customer service line is overwhelmed.
