Risk of heart attack
A large portion of heart attack patients are considered low risk and weren’t aware they had heart disease.
Researchers evaluated over 3,000 heart attack patients and found 70% had never been diagnosed with coronary heart disease.
Of those patients, 60% were women or young men, the two groups thought to be low risk.
In fact, men under 55 and women under 65 with high cholesterol were only half as likely to be taking statins as older patients.
Far fewer were being treated with ASA or other drugs.
