New faces at RIM

A couple of vacancies in the Research in Motion boardroom have been filled.

The embattled BlackBerry maker says it has hired a Chief Operating Officer and Chief Marketing Officer.

Kristian Tear will be the new COO.

He joins the company from Sony Mobile Communications, where he served as executive V.P.

In the lead marketing role is Frank Boulben, a former executive V.P. at LightSquared.

RIM says the two will help its team as it focuses on expanding its global customer base and preparing for the roll out of its new operating platform.
