This morning we met with Burlington mayor Marianne Meed Ward, as the city is still dealing with the clean-up following the storm that caused a lot of damage this past Saturday.

“The crews were out immediately after the storm went through.  They were cutting branches and clearing sidewalks and streets till 10:30, 11:00 at night.” said Mayor Meed Ward.  “We are just very fortunate that no one was killed, and of course our hearts go out to the 10 people who did die during that storm.”

The storm took out power 22,000 customers when it first hit.  By Saturday night, around 3,000 were still without power, and some people were without for the whole weekend.

If people need a hand with cleaning up or need help with food that was lost during the power outage the food banks are all operational and ready to help.

Mayor Meed Ward also discussed parking passes in Burlington.  You don’t need a parking pass for beach parking, but if you are a Halton resident and don’t want to pay for parking you can get 10 free passes.

Splash pads are also getting set to reopen just in time for the warmer weather, but unfortunately the Mountainside pool renovations won’t be done until probably 2023 due to labour strikes.

And street sweeping has begun, so make sure you do not park your car on the street so the sweeper can get by.
