Emily Vukvoic was at the Lions Foundation of Canada Guide Dogs learning all about the foster program and training that goes into turning a dog into a guide dog.

The Lions Foundation of Canada Guide Dogs are looking for foster families to take in puppies until they are 16 months, and train them on basic obedience skills and socialization. All foster families receive full training and support and vet bills, food and training expenses are all covered. After basic training the dogs then get specialty training to help people living with diabetes, autism, vision and hearing loss, seizures, or service and facility support.

The whole program is run on donations and fundraising, and this Sunday, May 26th is the Pet Valu Walk for Guide dogs, where their goal is to raise $1.6 million. There are walks taking place all across Canada, with local walks in Burlington, Hamilton, Grimsby, and Niagara Falls. For all walk locations, click here.
