Time to get festive with lifestyle expert Janette Ewen. She joined us this morning with some tips, tricks and trends for Christmas entertaining and get-togethers.

Decorating: Start with a theme

“This year, ‘Holiday Happiness’ is the biggest theme,” said Ewen. “It’s whimsical, icy and bright and I believe we can all find ways to make the holidays extra special.”

To do this, Ewen says her top theme for 2021 is ice palace meets a splash of whimsy. She recommends simply pulling anything “icy or blue” from holiday decor you already have and adding in some new items. The colour palette can also take you through to New Years Eve.

Fake, don’t bake

Ewan says to make baking stress free by cheating your way by. She buys holiday themes boxes, bows and toppers and then she uses DoorDash.

“The holidays are a great time to maximize your reward points,” said Ewen. “I use my RBC rewards to fake not bake…for a limited time you can get a Dash Pass from DoorDash which is up to 12 months that includes zero delivery fees on eligible orders.”

She says there are an abundance of local bakeries available on DoorDash.

Shop like Santa

“I do themes when I’m shopping for kids,” said Ewen. “Say Star Wars is your theme, I went onto Mastermind Toys and typed in ‘Star Wars’ and all these unexpected things popped up.”

Simply pick 1-3 items per child and shop for gifts around the theme you choose. This will keep you on trend and keep you in your budget.
