Gas prices up for the weekend

It’s not a Good Friday for drivers filling up at the pumps. Depending on where you live, the price of gas is up 4 cents a litre to almost $1.07 for regular unleaded. The change in seasons plays a role in the price of gas.

While some stations in Hamilton and Niagara are still selling gas for under a dollar, Dan McTeague from Tomorrow’s Gas Price Today, says it won’t last. “They are obviously taking a beating. Perhaps they are getting people in their stores to buy potato chips or smokes that have higher value added. In the meantime take advantage because the price will have to go up inevitably.”

Another factor in the fluctuating price at the pumps is the season. Mr. McTeague says that the switch from winter to summer gas makes a difference. “The price, which reflects what refiners have to do, which is to go and convert their gas from cheaper – to make winter blend gas – to more expensive to make summer gas. Inevitably those prices have to make their way through the pumps at some point.”
