The Royal Canadian Military Institute (RCMI) on University Avenue is one of Toronto’s most underrated historic spots. Part museum and part research library, it offers an up-close look at Canada’s military past through thousands of artifacts and personal stories.

Inside, you’ll find uniforms, firearms, model ships, and entire rooms lined with ceremonial swords and pistols. The Institute’s extensive medals collection adds a human layer, with each set reflecting real acts of courage and service.

The RCMI also highlights Canada’s crucial role in the final 100 days of the First World War, presenting the campaign with clarity and strong storytelling.

Upstairs, the library is a quiet treasure: more than 15,000 volumes, rare journals, and a restored two-storey reading room that feels like stepping into
