Crown & Press is a beautiful art gallery and café on Hamilton’s Ottawa Street.

It was opened by Hamilton artist Julia Veenstra as a place for people to showcase their art, and a place for people for gather and relax while enjoying an espresso or tea and an assortment of baked goods.

While the space isn’t totally new, there are new things happening there right now.

Emily Vukovic was there and met up with Lizzie Desjardins, a mother who started a group that hangs out at Crown & Press every Friday. The Mom Social is a great place for new moms to come together and meet and socialize while having lunch and looking at all the amazing pieces of art. The Hamilton mom group also does clothing swaps, and is just a great place for people to share and enjoy their time together.

At the café on Fridays and Saturdays there are cookies from Pleasant Bakery. There are classic cookies there every week, but there are also special cookies for October. Try out the Caramel Apple Toffee, Trick or Treat or the Browned Butter Walnut Pecan cookie.

At the back of the art gallery there is wearable art; beautiful pieces from Gilded Cage. This Friday Crown & Press and Gilded Cage Boutique is holding their first fashion show featuring local celebrities, including Emily and Annette.

The goal of the art gallery is to make it inviting and as accessible as possible. Even the art is for everyone. If you see a piece of art but it is too expensive or too big for your home, you can get a print in a wide variety of sizes and on different material.
