Bulldogs chat with Forward Ryan Winterton

The Hamilton Bulldogs came off a solid weekend by winning both games. They are staying in the second spot in the OHL’s Eastern conference.

The Bulldogs forward, Ryan Winterton joined us this morning. He injured his shoulder and is not yet active for the OHL. He is working on making a return to the ice.

“I’m getting frustrated now and then, but that’s to be expected with the situation I’m in,” said Winterton. “I’m still around [the team] everyday, practicing and working out with them, so I still feel part of the team, just not as much when they’re on the ice playing a game.”

Winterton was drafted by the Seattle Kraken in the NHL. He says being drafted by an expansion team is exciting because of how well the Vegas Golden Knights did a year after they started.

“I honestly didn’t talk to [the Seattle Kraken] that much before the draft,” said Winterton. “When they ended up picking me I was really thrilled.”

Winterton is from Whitby, Ontario and has been playing hockey since he was around five-years-old. Last year, he won gold in the under 18 league in Texas for Canada.

Winterton played with Burlington native Shane Wright in U-17’s and U-18’s.

“He was always a really classy captain with us and he puts his teammates first,” said Winterton. “Watching him everyday, you learn a lot from a guy like that.”

This Saturday on Nov. 27, the Bulldogs face-off against the Kingston Frontenacs at 4:00 p.m. It is the Military Appreciation game.
