HAPPENING NOW:

Anti-depressants and pregnancy

Toronto researchers are questioning a Swedish study that suggests anti-depressants in late pregnancy may double the rate of a rare and dangerous condition in babies.

It says the rate of persistent pulmonary hypertension is double in infants born to women who take the anti-depressants in late pregnancy.

The authors can’t say the drugs cause the condition, they can only note there is an association.

Researchers at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children say other issues might account for the findings, and say more research is needed.
