5 ways to enjoy the non-alcoholic amaro ‘Kickass89’

Chef Luke Hayes joins Bob Cowan on Morning Live to chat about the launch of his non-alcoholic amaro, Kickass89.
This first-of-its-kind drink is made from a secret blend of 89 immune-boosting adaptogens and botanicals, including ginseng, ginger, turmeric and reishi. It is completely alcohol-free, gluten-free and organic.
“Rich amber in the glass, the complex taste begins with gentle spice and sarsaparilla, followed by exotic vanilla and a hint of pleasing bitterness,” said Hayes, who also runs an underground supper club in Toronto called L.U.S.T. “The finish fades with reserved sweetness and a whisper of caramel, plump berry, ginger and lemongrass.”
The recipe has been passed down through Hayes’ family for centuries. His mother, Carrie, is now the only person with the recipe.
Hayes and Carrie created Kickass89 at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic because they wanted to turn their family recipe into a drink for all to enjoy.
“It tastes great but it’s also good for you,” Hayes said. “It’s like the ultimate combination.”
Kickass89 is quite versatile too. Here are five ways you can drink this non-alcoholic amaro:
- Over ice with or without the addition of sparkling water
- A post-dinner drink to aid digestion
- Simply enjoyed as an alcohol-free amaro
- An ice cream float
- Used in cocktails or mocktails
Kickass89 is made in Toronto and can be purchased here.
