5-step system to clear the clothes clutter

Is your closet crammed? Do your drawers not close? Professional home organizer Megan Arthurs has a 5-step system to clear the clothes clutter.

Step 1: Purge

Take out all the clothes in your closet and drawers and sort them into three piles- keep, donate and discard. Get rid of clothes you haven’t worn in a year or ones that don’t fit you or your lifestyle anymore.

Step 2: Categorize

Sort the items you are keeping into specific categories so you can see if you have too many of one item and could maybe purge more. Put pants together, shirts, dresses etc.

Step 3: Organize

Once you categorize all your clothes you will want to organize all your clothes in your drawers. Use dividers and organizers to keep everything neat and tidy. You can also organize by season or colour.

Step 4: Folding

By folding items a certain way you can save space and clearly see everything you have. Try tri-folding clothes and file stacking your drawers.

Step 5: Maintain

Regularly edit your closet and take out and donate clothes you still aren’t wearing. We all keep those few pieces we “may” wear again. At the start of every new season go through and do a clothes cleanout again.
