Kids are out of school soon and then what are you going to do with them? Laura Ferrier is the communications coordinator for the Grain Farmers of Ontario and is here with some great ideas for home made decorations.

Salt Dough Ornaments

Materials:

4 cups flour

1 cup salt

1 ½ cups warm water

Straw or toothpick

Rolling pin

Cookie cutters

Baking sheet

Paint/glitter to decorate, varnish

String/ribbon

Directions:

1.Combine flour and salt well. Gradually add water, stirring with a large spoon. Finish mixing with hands. Knead until soft and pliable. Add more water if needed.

2.Roll out on floured surface about 1/8 inch thick.

3.Cut shapes with cookie cutters. Place on cookie sheets.

4.Make a hole in the top of the ornament with toothpick or straw for threading string.

5.Bake at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) until hard, about 45 minutes.

6.Decorate with paint, glitter, or whatever you like. Once dry, varnish to preserve
