The Mom Market Collective was founded by two mom bosses, Amy Thompson and Jasmine Ancona. The two started the market to allow others in the community to have an outlet to grow and promote their businesses. The market has been around for three years and is present all over Ontario.
Lindsay Spanik runs the Hamilton division and joined us this morning with some holiday gift ideas made by local moms. Some of the many items people can find through the Mom Market include home decor, apparel, warm drinks and more.
Spanik says buying local helps feed the economy and makes it easier to find what you are looking for.
“At the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020, ‘local’ was a big word,” said Spanik. “It hasn’t gone away… it means a lot to support local [businesses].”
One of the companies featured in the Mom Market is Yarned and Dangerous. The company hand-makes everything from throws to winter hats.
“[These make] excellent gifts for the holidays, obviously for winter,” said Spanik. “Nothing is better than wearing something that is handmade and local.”
Another company working with the Mom Market is Beamsville local business L.C. Designs. She makes pillows, mats, sweaters and more.
There is an upcoming market at the Ancaster fairgrounds Nov. 20-21. No tickets are needed to come to the market.
“We will have a local greenhouse selling urns and wreaths,” said Spanik. “We have food trucks and once you enter the building you just show your vaccine passport and then you have access to all 60 of the shops that are going to be there.”
