Man charged with first-degree murder in 2019 deaths of Brantford couple

A 22-year-old man has been charged in connection with the 2019 shooting deaths of a Brantford husband and wife.

Kareem Zedan, of Pickering, was arrested in Thunder Bay on Tuesday and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Larry Reynolds, 64, and Lynn VanEvery, 62.

The couple was fatally shot at their home on Park Rd. South just before 8 a.m. on July 18, 2019.

They were both treated at the scene by emergency medical services but later died from their injuries.

Police said other people were inside the home but were not injured.

Residents in the area reported hearing multiple shots the morning of the shooting.

A neighbour’s surveillance camera caught footage of a man running from a black car into the house and back out again.

An internal investigation was launched by Brantford police in the days following the incident to find out why officers weren’t dispatched to a call about suspicious activuty roughly an hour before the shooting.

At the time, Brantford’s police chief said, “Generally, this is not the practice of the Brantford Police Service.”

Zedan remains in custody and is scheduled to appear via video in Brantford court on April 2.
