Israeli forces pushing into south Gaza

Major combat operations resumed in Gaza over the weekend after the truce between Israel and Hamas collapsed on Friday.

Both sides blamed each other for the end of the pause in fighting – which lasted about a week and allowed for the release of 80 Israeli hostages in exchange for 240 Palestinian prisoners.

Today, the Israel Defense Forces say they are expanding their ground assault to all corners of Gaza, vowing to pursue Hamas wherever they are. For more we’re joined by James Gelvin – a professor of Middle Eastern History at the University of California Los Angeles.
