Hamilton woman celebrates her 107th birthday

First Published:

A Hamilton Centenarian is celebrating another milestone today.

Ann Konkel can still speak six languages, and engage in conversation at the incredible age of 107.

Ann has celebrated her last few birthdays in the courtyard outside St. Joseph’s Hospital where she is living in an elderly unit.

Hamilton Police Chief Frank Bergen was in attendance today and says, “Ann has been a staple in this community for so many years, and this is my third year that I’ve been here, we bring our mounted unit out to celebrate an important Hamiltonian.”

Ann was born in the Netherlands in 1915 and moved to Hamilton with her family in the 50s. She worked different jobs before starting a career in nursing.

For her big day, the Queen and Canada’s Governor General both sent Ann a letter to congratulate her on turning 107.

Ann has made it through the pandemic without catching COVID-19, and her family expects to be back there next year for another birthday party.
