Hamilton teacher facing multiple sex charges after ‘several victims’ came forward

First Published:

A Hamilton teacher is facing multiple sex charges after allegations of sexual assault involving students surfaced online and prompted a police investigation.

Brian Boyle, 53, has been charged with four counts of sexual assault, three counts of sexual exploitation and one count of sexual interference.

Boyle, who is a teacher at Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School, was arrested on Wednesday after, police say, “several victims” came forward.

“We are saddened to hear of today’s arrest and charges against Brian Boyle and continue to keep those impacted in our thoughts and prayers,” said Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board (HWCDSB) Chairperson Patrick Daly in a statement. “We encourage anyone with any knowledge or concerns to contact Hamilton Police Service. Support is available for students and staff. ”

Hamilton police launched an investigation last month after reports of sexual violence and sexual harassment began circulating on social media.

At the time, the school board said the teacher at the centre of the allegations had been placed on leave.

Boyle is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 6.

Hamilton Police Service is encouraging any survivors of sexual assault to report incidents to the Sexual Assault Unit at 905-540-5553.

“We want all survivors of sexual violence to know that we believe them and we will respect their choice in when they report an incident, where and how,” said police in a news release.
