Hamilton man, 86, charged after driving into bus stop, injuring person

An 86-year-old man has been charged with careless driving after his vehicle drove into a bus stop and seriously injured one person.

The incident happened around 5 p.m. on April 14 when a Ford Mustang was travelling eastbound on Main St. East near James St. South and mounted the sidewalk.

The vehicle struck multiple things before it hit a bus stop with people nearby. The Mustang then knocked down a concrete light pole.

A male bystander who was sitting on a bench was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his lower leg. Another bystander and the Mustang driver were not injured.

The Hamilton man driving the Mustang has been charged with careless driving causing bodily harm under the Highway Traffic Act.
