Hamilton community recycling centres and waste transfer stations to reopen

Hamilton’s community recycling centres and waste transfer stations are reopening after an abrupt weekend shut down.

The sites were shut down on Saturday after an issue with the contractor. All three sites will reopen by Tuesday morning.

Residential garbage and recycling pickups were not affected.

The city says the contractor wanted more money, suggesting that COVID-19 has led to increased tonnages from residents clearing out their yards, homes and garages.

The community recycling centres on Kenora Ave. and Kilbride Rd. reopen at noon on Monday.

The centre on Olympic Dr. will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

All three Waste Transfer Stations reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday.

The recycling centres are places for residents to drop off waste that isn’t collected at the curb.

Waste transfer stations are for commercial customers and waste collection trucks to drop off waste.
