Hamilton Centre to see first new representative in nearly 20 years

Hamilton Centre will see a new representative for the first time in nearly 20 years by the end of this Thursday. Candidates canvased the area in a riding some say is wide open.

Green party candidate for Hamilton Centre Lucia Iannantuono spent her Tuesday afternoon spreading awareness of her plans to lead Hamilton down a different path, “…there is a lot of momentum here for the greens. People are really frustrated with business as usual and I think that we are showing a way forward that’s different than what we’ve done before.’

Liberal candidate Dierdre Pike joined by former deputy premier Deb Matthews took time to meet with some of the riding’s older voters at the Queen’s Garden “…I was sitting down with seniors there and people living in that place where they rely on the bus and the nurses who were there and it was really wonderful to be able to hear from them about what’s important.”

NDP candidate Sarah Jama along with NDP Hamilton mountain MPP Monique Taylor held a morning sign wave by Dundurn and King before canvassing down Locke street.

Despite their efforts, Elections Ontario is reporting only 5.2 per cent of the eligible voters have turned out to cast an early ballot. That is down more than half compared to last year’s general election.
