Downtown Hamilton church struck by vandalism spree

First Published:

A man went on a vandalism spree early Sunday morning at a downtown Hamilton church, causing around $25,000 in damages.

Surveillance video outside of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church on King street east shows a man vandalizing the property just after 2 a.m.

St. Patrick’s Church is known for it’s outreach program that serves breakfast and lunch to members of the community everyday, many of them homeless.

Outreach worker Leon Blais said that the man in the video looks familiar.

“We serve 300-500 people every single day so we deal with a lot of people in our community that have mental health issues, drug addiction issues, and poverty issues and it looks like it was one of our guests,” Blais said.

The Church also says it has notified police about the incident and they are investigating.
