Hamilton teen Devan Selvey was awarded an honorary high school degree from Winston Churchill Secondary School Thursday night.
Devan’s mother, Shari-Ann Selvey, was presented with the degree from the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board in a ceremony held near a memorial created in his memory.
The Hamilton teen was set to graduate this year before tragically losing his life outside his high school nearly four years ago.

Fourteen-year-old Devan was stabbed outside Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in October 2019. His killer, who was also 14 at the time, fled the scene. While the two didn’t directly know each other, Devan’s loved ones say he was bullied in school.
The teen who murdered Devan was sentenced to seven years in prison back in 2022, but the family says the sentence isn’t enough.
Shari-Ann tells CHCH News Devan had hopes to become a mechanic after high school.
