A deadly fire ripped through a 24-floor apartment building in London overnight, killing six people and injuring at least 64 others; 20 of them critically.
More than 250 firefighters were called to the Grenfell Tower in North Kensington just after midnight Wednesday. A witness told local media she saw a member of the public catch a baby that was dropped from the burning tower.
London Police commander Stuart Cundy said the number of fatalities is likely to rise during what’s expected to be a complex recovery operation over several days.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan says questions need to be answered about tower blocks around the city following a devastating fire. He released a statement saying, “there will be a great many questions over the coming days as to the cause of this tragedy and I want to reassure Londoners that we will get all the answers.”
