Nuclear power was a hot topic at Queen’s Park today.

The Liberals were criticized last year for choosing to refurbish two nuclear power plants instead of building new ones. Today energy minister Bob Chiarelli said they are committed to finishing the refurbishments at the Darlington and Pickering plants in a timely and economic manner.

“We had discussions with Bruce (Energy) and OPG about how they could work together more efficiently on those projects, to consolidate some of their supply chain to generate efficiencies.”

“Our priority right now is the long-term energy plan, and with respect to nuclear, get those refurbishments done.”

Chiarelli also says that as of right now, both the Darlington and Pickering plants will remain in the hands of Ontario Power Generation.
