Students and staff members at Yorkview Elementary School have evacuated the building Wednesday morning after a smell of gasoline.

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board says staff detected the smell of gasoline and pulled the fire alarm, which triggered the evacuation.

Hamilton police along with the fire department responded to the elementary school to investigate the smell immediately.

Staff and students remained outside while crews tested gas levels in the school and found no concerns.

Investigators say Hazmat have cleared the school.

The school board says air flow systems were increased to move fresh air through the building.

Students have returned back inside the building and regular school operations will continue.
