Halton police arrested a woman after a popular Burlington comic book shop was nearly robbed Friday.

Around eight o’clock a woman wearing a hoodie that covered most of her face entered Conspiracy Comics on Fairview Street in Burlington.

She browsed a short time then brought a comic to the cash.

A prepaid visa card was declined. She then pulled out a $20 bill and when the clerk returned with her change, he looked up to see she was armed with a hammer.

The clerk was able to distract the woman. When he gave the woman change, she put down the hammer to pick it up. He scooped it up and yelled for her to get out of the shop. She exited the door quickly and fled eastbound.

Police arrested 30-year-old Mary Margaret Ross Saturday morning.

She’s charged with one count of robbery and will appear in court Sunday morning.
