Wickenheiser will be flag bearer

A big announcement from the Canadian Olympic Committee. The athlete who will carry our flag during the opening ceremonies has been announced.
The honour has been given to women’s hockey star Hayley Wickenheiser.

The announcement was made in Ottawa Thursday morning, but Wickenheiser wasn’t able to attend because she’s in Europe with the National Women’s Hockey Team. However they did manage to hook up with the hockey star via Skype. Here’s what she had to say:  “Thank you very much for the introduction. I’m sitting here with my team behind me and we go into our final preparations heading into Sochi. I couldn’t be more proud to represent Canada and represent all these women and staff to carry the flag for the rest of Canada’s athletes.”

Wickenheiser is Canada’s biggest women’s hockey star and a pioneer of the game. This will be her fifth Olympics.
