Who will replace Justin Trudeau as Liberal party leader? Here are the top contenders

With the Prime Minister stepping down and an election on the horizon, the race is now on to find the next leader of the Liberal Party.

Trudeau told reporters today that he’s confident the party will find a strong leader going into the next election.

According to early polling, Chrystia Freeland is the front-runner to take the top seat.

She is the former finance minister and deputy prime minister, who dramatically resigned from her cabinet post in early December, citing a rift between herself and the PM.

We’ll learn more about what this leadership race will look like and when the vote will take place in the coming days, after the party president meets with the national board.

Party leaders are reportedly trying to expedite the process before a possible election in May.
