What’s open and closed around Hamilton on Christmas and Boxing days

With the Christmas season looming just around the corner, you might be wondering what holiday closures are happening in Hamilton and the surrounding areas.

Regionally, the following services will be unavailable over Christmas.

  • Municipal offices;
  • Banks;
  • Canada Post offices;
  • Grocery stores;
  • Beer Stores and The LCBO; and
  • Malls, including CF Lime Ridge Mall, Jackson Square, Eastgate Square, Outlet Collection at Niagara and Mapleview Shopping Centre

Some pharmacies and restaurants will remain open. Residents are urged to check holiday schedules online before heading out.

By Boxing Day, most of these services will re-open. However, some services will continue to operate on a holiday schedule until the new year.

Whether it’s garbage collection, public transit or general recreation centres, there are a myriad of public services that will be open, closed or operating in a limited capacity over the next few days.

Take a moment to familiarize yourself with those upcoming Christmas Day closures and holiday schedules in your area and more by reading the list below.

City of Hamilton

All of Hamilton’s administrative offices will be shut down on Dec. 25 until Jan. 1.

Public transit will be operating on a special holiday service on Dec. 25, and will mostly be operating on a Sunday schedule for Dec. 26. However, routes 1, 2, 21, 25, 26, 41 and 43 will all be operating on a more frequent Saturday-based schedule.

ATS-Darts will be operating on holiday service hours on Dec. 25 and 26. All subscription trips on DARTS, except for dialysis trips, are cancelled. Passengers who need to travel on either of those days must make arrangements in advance.

Additionally, the ATS Customer Service offices will be closed on both Christmas and Boxing Day.

Waste collection services will not occur on Dec. 25. (Green bin, blue box, bulk waste or garbage pickup) and will be pushed ahead by one day. Regular service will continue on Dec. 26.

All Hamilton Civic Museums will be closed on Dec. 25 and 26.

Hamilton’s Farmer Market will be closed on Dec. 25 and 26.

The Hamilton Public Library will close all branches on Dec. 25 and 26.

City of Hamilton Animal Services offices and shelters will be closed on both Christmas and Boxing Day.

Niagara Region

Public transit will be running from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Niagara Falls.

Welland and St. Catharines will have no service on Dec. 25.

Service in Welland and St. Catharines will resume on Dec. 26, on a holiday schedule.

Waste collection services will not occur on Dec. 25.

Halton Region

Transit services will be running on a Sunday schedule in Burlington and Oakville on Dec. 25 and 26.

Transit will not be running in Milton on Dec. 25.

Waste collection services will not occur on Dec. 25 in Burlington, Oakville or Milton.

Waste collection services will resume on Dec. 26, for Burlington only.

Brant County

Public transit will not be operating on Dec. 25. Regular operations will resume on Dec. 26.

Waste collection services will not occur on Dec. 25.

Norfolk Country

Waste collection services in Simcoe will be running on Dec. 25.

Waste collection services will not be operating in the rest of Norfolk County on Dec. 25, and will resume on Dec. 26.

Haldimand County

Waste collection services in the region will not occur on Dec. 25 and instead be delayed by one day, starting on the 26.
